Child Safety - A Priority Project
This project has been operating since December 2007 and builds on the huge success of the "Right To Feel Safe" project that was provided in the Kimberly region of WA during 2006-07. As a result of extensive inquiries from the Pilbara Region and the recommendations of the State Governments Inquiry into Family Violence and Child Abuse in aboriginal communities, Protective Behaviours WA sought and secured funding through the National Community Crime Prevention Programme to provide quality professional training to service providers, carers and parents of Indigenous children.
The project will also produce resource materials required to teach children the Protective Behaviours Program and to provide a mentoring service to those involved in the project throughout the Pilbara region of WA in order to strengthen local communities and develop a comprehensive and coordinated approach to child protection locally.
